The Dresden Striezelmarkt is the oldest Christmas market in Germany and one of the oldest and most famous Christmas markets in the world. It opens its doors traditionally on the Altmarkt since 1434. Dresden is even called Germany's unofficial Christmas capital.

The name of the Striezelmarkt comes from the Dresdner Stollen, which is called Strutzel or Striezel in Middle High German.

The Dresden Kreuzkirche defines the Dresden Striezelmarkt with its Christian message. You can expect a stage program on the history and special features of the Dresden Kreuzkirche.

The Christmas market at Cologne Cathedral is the most popular in Germany. Over four million people come to Cologne every year to visit this market. Thanks to its charitable activities and the sustainability of the offer, it is also called the "market of hearts". What makes this market so unique?

The Christmas market in Frankfurt enchants with its backdrops of Römerberg and Paulsplatz as well as a huge Christmas tree. The Frankfurt Christmas market is held in several locations. You can choose Römerberg, Paulsplatz, Mainkai, or Hauptwache as your starting point.

Only Lindau has a port Christmas. The romantic Christmas market on the lake promenade, with the Mangturm in the middle, awaits you with mulled wine, Christmas decorations, cookies, and an extensive supporting program for both young and old.

The highlights of the Lindau Christmas Market program are

● November 26 at 6:00 p.m.: Grand opening of the Lindau Harbor Christmas.

● Lindauer Christmas tree at the old town hall.

● The Christmas crib in St. Stephan.

● Nikolaus swimming at the Wasserwacht Lindau (exact time will be announced later). The start is from the slip system of the Lindau Sailing Club, then the path leads past the Römerbad along the Löwenmole and then turns into the Lindau harbor. The water temperature is usually 5 to 7 degrees.

● “Magical fairytale forest” - a special visitor magnet on the market not only for children, which you should not miss. For this purpose, extra firs from the Black Forest are built in the Lindau harbor every year. Little visitors will be enchanted with fairytale hours and the scent of firs.

● Christmas city tours.
Be sure to take a Christmas city tour around the festively decorated and illuminated island with atmospheric music or a particularly popular city tour with the night watchman. The nightwatchman takes you safely through the dark alleys and winding corners of the island of Lindau. Armed with halberd, lantern, horn, and a lot of humor, he tells you secrets from times long past.

The city tour in Advent takes place on all opening days of the Lindau Harbor Christmas at 3 p.m.
The nightwatchman tour takes place every Saturday on 28.11. and 05.12. as well as 12.12 and 19.12.2020 at 5 p.m.
The tour with the nightwatchman takes place every Friday on 27.11. as well as on 4.12, 11.12, and 18.12.2020 at 5 p.m.

The meeting point for all appointments is in front of the large stairs at the Old Town Hall. Fee: 8 euros per person, all tours take place in German.

Tip: Enjoy the lake view during advent cruises by boat from November 26 to December 20, 2020, and experience the winter magic with the Lake Constance shipping companies.
When and where: Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00 p.m., from the ports of Constance and Lindau.
The cruise takes two hours, a cup of coffee or tea with a delicious piece of cake is included in the price. Adults € 24.00.
Tickets are available at the Tourist Information at Alfred-Nobel-Platz 1 or directly on board.

The Christkindelsmarkt in Baden-Baden

The Christkindlesmarkt in Baden-Baden is a winter fairy tale of a particular kind. The around 100 decorated stands of the Christmas market in Baden-Württemberg invite you to stroll around the Kurhaus in the beautiful bathing and cultural city and the world-famous park and garden area Lichtentaler Allee.
