The famous Maya Bay beach is located in the rock-sheltered bay of Ko Phi Phi Lee Island, Thailand. 100-meter cliffs surround the bay on three sides, leaving a narrow passage into the ocean, and making the beach look like a lost paradise.
Paradise Island has always been marvellous, but shooting scenes for the film «The Beach» made it even more popular. The beach is about 200 meters long and is covered with silky white sand, and the warm turquoise waters of the ocean are ideal for swimming, diving, and snorkeling.
You can visit the island and the beach as part of an organized boat trip, or rent a boat/cutter for an individual trip. Since the island is part of a national reserve, the infrastructure is minimal. There is a small wooden hut that operates as a snack bar. Campfire cooking is prohibited, so it is worth bringing a supply of food and water with you.
From November to April, this mesmerizing beach is visited by hundreds of tourists. Large waves make it dangerous for boats to enter during other months of the year.
